Skin Cancer Screening & Mole Mapping in Singapore: Why Early Detection Matters
Why Skin Cancer Screening Matters in Singapore
While Singapore's predominantly Asian population has lower skin cancer rates than Western countries, the incidence is rising. Singapore's proximity to the equator means year-round high UV exposure, and many residents underestimate their risk.
Key facts:
- Skin cancer is one of the top 10 cancers in Singapore
- Melanoma, though less common, is the most dangerous โ early detection is the single most important factor in survival
- Asian skin cancers often appear in atypical locations (palms, soles, nails), making them easy to miss
- Many patients present late because they assumed they were "not at risk"
DAS Skin Clinic's Screening Approach
Our skin cancer screening combines two powerful modalities:
1. Full Body Clinical Examination
A board-certified dermatologist systematically examines your entire skin surface โ from scalp to soles โ using a dermoscope. This handheld device provides magnified, polarised views of skin lesions, revealing structures invisible to the naked eye.
Dr Henry Loh, our Medical Director, has special expertise in moles, birthmarks, and skin cancers, having trained at leading institutions including Guy's Hospital London.
2. Intelligence Studio Mole Mapping
DAS Skin Clinic uses Intelligence Studio, developed by Canfield Technology (USA) โ the world leader in medical imaging systems. This technology:
- Captures high-resolution images of your entire body surface
- Creates a digital baseline map of every mole and skin lesion
- Enables side-by-side comparison at future screenings to detect any changes
- Uses standardised lighting and positioning for accurate year-on-year tracking
What to Expect During Your Screening
Before the Appointment
- Remove nail polish from fingers and toes (melanoma can occur under nails)
- Avoid heavy makeup on the face
- Wear comfortable, easy-to-remove clothing
- Note any moles or spots that have changed recently
During the Screening (approximately 45โ60 minutes)
After the Screening
You'll receive a comprehensive report with:
- Your Intelligence Studio images for future comparison
- Documentation of any lesions requiring monitoring
- Recommendations for follow-up timing
- Personalised sun protection guidance

- Family history of melanoma or other skin cancers
- Many moles (more than 50) or large/unusual-looking moles
- A history of sunburns, especially in childhood
